About the SELB
The Southern Education and Library Board was established
in 1973 as part of a general reorganisation of local government.
It is the local authority for education and library services
in the Armagh, Banbridge, Cookstown, Craigavon, Dungannon
and Newry and Mourne Districts.
The population of the area is approximately 322,000. To serve
this population, the Board provides or maintains 15 nursery,
242 primary, 36 secondary, 3 grammar and 6 special schools,
23 public libraries and 13 youth centres and 4 outdoor education
centres. Services are also offered to a further 12 voluntary
grammar schools and 8 grant maintained integrated schools
in the area, along with 481 voluntary youth clubs. Approximately
81,857 children attend schools in the Board's area.
